You *could* make a classic rectangular-cut
kimono...or you could make this gorgeous
version, perfect for fluid fabrics like washed
linen, crepe, crepe-de-chine, charmeuse,
panne velvet, chiffon, rayon or viscose.
You can also use a drape-y knit like bamboo,
linen or rayon knits, silk(y) jersey, even a
fluid but firm lightweight sweater knit.
Unfitted, open front kimono has a slightly
loose but not baggy fit, and features classic
kimono-style sleeves with a square-cut body.
Front has a waterfall edge at the bottom half;
back features raglan seams and a shorter back.
Sleeves, neckline and hems are finished
with deep hem bands.
You may wonder when you’d need a kimono...you can
wear this floaty beauty as a beach or pool cover-up, to
dress up a jeans & T outfit, as a glamorous evening
cover-up, a sleep or lounge robe, or a travel cardigan.
This gorgeous kimono would also make a fabulous gift
for a special birthday, or a baby or bridal shower...
All sizes S-M-L-XL-XXL will need around 3 yards or 275 cm fabric.
If you want to use a contrast fabric for the hem, sleeve & neckbands
you will *still* need 3 yards/275cm fabric, *PLUS* ½ yard/45cm contrast
fabric; ½ yard/45cm interfacing for the hem, sleeve & neckbands is
optional, if you do use it, make sure it doesn’t make your hem,
sleeve & neckbands too stiff.
All fabric allowances are for 60" or 150cm wide fabrics.
