Sewbox Launch – a new way to buy sewing supplies online

by Leah Taylor on April 8, 2010

I am so excited to tell you that my new online shop, http://www.sewbox.co.uk, has finally launched!!

I really wanted Sewbox to offer a different way to buy sewing supplies online, with a super convenient yet stylish choice of products – all of our fabrics are listed with matching threads and zips, and you can purchase coordinating threads and zips at the same time as the fabric with one click of the mouse. This helps explain why the launch was so delayed as it took sooo much longer than I could ever have imagined to do the matching and enter all the data in to the catalogue!

I spent a lot of time choosing the fabrics on offer as it is really important to me to offer consistently high quality, reliable fabrics. I know from experience how hard it can be to buy fabric online without being able to touch or feel it, and this was another driving force behind Sewbox – a lot of websites offer a huge quantity and array of fabrics but with little thought in to the quality, design or style of the fabrics. I have taken a more hand-picked, selective approach, by choosing those fabrics I think will appeal the most and that I know are really good quality as well as stylish, so that you can be confident of the quality and handle of any fabric purchased from Sewbox. I’ve started out with a selection of 27 beautiful fabrics and will be adding to this every month!

Another new way to shop are our new all-in-one kit bundles where you can buy a pattern, fabric, and matching thread and notions all in one convenient kit. This was really where the whole Sewbox idea started, and I hope to add lots more kits over the next few weeks. The idea is it will save you a lot of running (or trawling) around looking for the matching notions, as Sewbox has done the work to match them up for you, ultimately giving you more time in front of the sewing machine. And as we’ll only match patterns with fabrics that we think are suitable and will look good with that particular pattern, it helps you be more comfortable about the fabric you are buying (though free samples are available if you prefer to feel before you buy).

Over the next few weeks I will be adding a lot more stock. As well as more fabrics, I’ll be including the Serendipity Studio pattern range, the full Kwik Sew range, and of course expand our range of HOT PATTERNS !!

Please do check back frequently to see our new stock, and if you’d like to sign up to our newsletter to be the first to hear about new products and special offers, sign up for our newsletter (we will not share your details with any third parties).

We’ll also be running a very special launch competition in conjunction with the Sewing Directory, another fabulous website that launched at this year’s Sewing for Pleasure event in Birmingham, so look out for that next week.

I’d love to hear what you think about the new site so please let me know by posting a comment or by e-mailing me!
